  • Why Legal Services?

Applying for and obtaining legal status is life-changing and sets many immigrant families on a path toward stability, security, and hope. However, even if a person is clearly eligible for legal status, it cannot only be financially impossible for them to obtain legal help through a private attorney but due to the complexity of the US immigration system it is often extremely challenging and sometimes detrimental without legal representation. In the US, immigrants who have legal representation are five times more likely to obtain legal status than if they are not represented. We provide low cost legal aid services to those who qualify. We focus on family based immigration. Some of our services include: Naturalization, Green Card Renewal, Adjustment of Status and other family based immigration benefits, etc.

  • Who can help me with legal services?

Proper legal representation is highly important because a small mistake can make a critical difference in the outcome of your case. Immigrants are often targeted by unauthorized “legal practitioners” (“notarios”) who prey on the vulnerability of the immigrant. Legal advice can come only from attorneys practicing immigration law or DOJ accredited representatives. Because immigration law is complex and ever changing, it is crucial that applicants for immigration benefits be properly and thoroughly screened to ensure they are properly applying for the appropriate benefit. We help immigrant families better understand their individual situations and the immigration benefits for which they may be eligible. USCIS forms and applications are complicated and specific legal documents that can affect an immigrant’s ability to live and work in the U.S. These documents can also affect the immigrant’s spouse and children. A seemingly simple or innocent mistake can lead to additional costs, delays, or devastatingly negative outcomes.

  • What does ASIS legal staff offer?

ASIS provides informational sessions on topics such as citizenship clinics, knowing your rights, banking, affordable health care, and other special projects. We also maintain a referral list and provide assisted referrals to local social service organizations when a client has a need outside our scope and expertise.

Hear from our Clients…

“When I first received my papers, I was so overwhelmed and didn’t know what to do. I don’t recommend anyone do this process on their own. It is such a complicated system. They made me feel welcome, and they helped me a lot. You will feel loved and comfortable. I don’t know where I would be without them. I thank the Lord for this service! -Cicilin, Jamaica

“I still cannot state enough what it meant to me to be able to sit at the table with a considerate advocate discussing one of the heaviest issues in my life. One of the things I dreaded the most about this process was that I would be treated as just another case on someone's long list of things to do and not as an individual person with unique circumstances, hopes, and dreams. Thank you for your vision and the clarity you bring to this complicated mess we call our immigration system. “ -ASIS client
